Song for the Month: Cheshvah 5772 / November 2011

Dear Congregation Beth Israel members and friends,

Both of the Shabbat services which I’m leading this month will be special services. This coming Shabbat morning, 11/5, we’ll have our first contemplative chant-based service (you can listen to the thirteen chants we’ll be using here in this post), and on Shabbat morning 11/19 I’ll be leading davenen alongside my friend and colleague rabbinic student David Markus, who will bring music and harmony to our sanctuary.

Cheshvan is an unusual month on the Jewish calendar because it contains no holidays at all (except for Shabbat, of course, the holiest day of them all which comes every single week!) In honor of this month without holidays, there is no official Song for the Month this month; instead there will be many new melodies floating through the air at CBI at our chant-based service and at the service I’m co-leading with David, and we’ll return to having an official Song for the Month when we enter the month of Kislev.

Blessings to you all for a sweet week!
